Explore the less-visited part of the Great Wall of China on this tour of the Huangya Great Wall and the Qing Tombs. A unique historical tour!
Looking to discover the less touristy part of the Great Wall of China? To do so, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Beijing and leave the city to begin our drive towards the border between the Chinese capital and the city of Tianjin, in the northern part of the country.
After 3 hours, we'll reach the impressive Huangya entrance gate. We'll walk for over 3 kilometres (almost 1.9 miles) and, during this journey, we'll see 20 watchtowers and a fortress. While we climb the long sections of stairs, we'll discuss the great Ming Dynasty, which lasted over 300 years, and how Huangyaguan also represented a significant architectural achievement of the Northern Qi Dynasty.
To re-energise after our walk, we'll say goodbye to Huangyaguan and visit a restaurant where we'll enjoy a traditional Chinese lunch. We deserve it after all those steps!
Afterwards, we'll make our way to the Qing Tombs, an enigmatic collection of 17th-century mausoleums. Its importance lies in the fact that the first Qing emperor is buried here. Moreover, it is said to be the largest and best-preserved necropolis in China.
We'll then pass the funeral chambers adorned with lavish decoration and traditional architecture that house the remains of 5 emperors, over 100 concubines, empresses, princes, and princesses of the Qing Dynasty.
Finally, after a comprehensive tour full of history, well return to Beijing and say goodbye at your hotel nine hours after the pickup
