We'll uncover the story of the Mazzamauriello, a mischievous goblin from Campanian folklore said to live in the nooks of homes—playing pranks or lending a hand, depending on how he’s treated.
Just a few steps away, we'll dive into the eerie legend of La Zoccolara, a ghostly woman some say they’ve heard wandering the streets in wooden clogs. From there, we’ll continue to the Roman Theater, a place that once echoed with performances, rituals, and celebrations—sounds that, according to legend, still linger in the air.
Next, we’ll pause at the Cathedral of Benevento, an 8th-century structure rebuilt time and again due to battles and destruction. What secrets lie behind its ancient walls? Our path then takes us to the Palace of Paul V, now home to the Janua Museum, where things get even more mysterious.
Inside, we’ll delve into the world of the janare, the legendary witches of Benevento. Stories tell of their midnight gatherings under a magical walnut tree by the River Sabato.
