Ready to explore one of the most fascinating cities in Chilean Patagonia? We'll begin this tour of Punta Arenas at the cruise terminal, where we'll pick you up when your ship docks.
After a brief introduction to the capital of Magallanes, Chile's southernmost region, we'll head to the Plaza de Armas. In this square, we'll admire the Punta Arenas Cathedral and the elegant buildings of the Municipality and Regional Government.
The next stop will be at the Braun Menéndez Museum. This building was constructed during the white gold era, so called because of the economic boom generated by livestock farming and the introduction of sheep from the Falkland Islands. During the visit, we'll learn about the history of the Magallanes region and see an extensive exhibition of antiques and period furniture that belonged to the family that gives the museum its name.
We'll continue the tour at the Cerro de la Cruz viewpoint, from where we'll enjoy beautiful panoramic views of Punta Arenas. On clear days, it's even possible to see the Strait of Magellan. After enjoying the views, we'll continue on to the Sara Braun Cemetery, considered one of the most beautiful in the world.
Throughout the tour, we'll discover what makes this cemetery so special and then head to the Shepherd's Monument, which pays tribute to the shepherds of the white gold era. We'll talk about the importance of this period in the history of Chilean Patagonia and, after a 3-hour tour, we'll conclude by returning to the cruise terminal in Punta Arenas.
