Hike through the beautiful scenery of the Chilean Altiplano on this route to the Choquelimpie Mountain from Putre. You'll climb one of the most spectacular mountains in northern Chile's Andean foothills.
Choquelimpie Mountain Hike
Let's go on an adventure! We'll pick you up from your hotel in Putre between 7 and 8 am and drive to Choquelimpie. This mountain sits in the Andean foothills in the heart of the Chilean Altiplano.
Once we've reached the base of the mountain, we'll start a high-difficulty hiking route that'll take us between 7 and 8 hours. All this effort will be well worth it when we reach the 17,500-foot (5,353-metre) high summit and take in the unforgettable views.
From the top of Choquelimpie, we'll look out at views of Chungará Lake and the Parinacota Volcano, which acts as a natural border between Chile and Bolivia. We'll also see some of the area's other peaks, such as the Guane Guane and the Gullatiri Volcano. The name of this volcano means "abundance of wallatas", a goose that's characteristic of the Andes, in the Aymara language.
We'll take a break to rest and admire the views and have a picnic lunch of sandwiches, dried fruits, chocolates and natural juices. After lunch, we'll start walking back down to the starting point of the trail.
You'll be dropped off at your hotel in Putre between 3 and 6 pm, depending on our hiking pace.
